ADDITIONAL DETAILS RELEASED IN CROSSVILLE HIGH-SPEED CHASE WHERE K-9 OFFICER WAS FATALLY WOUNDED
Additional information has been released concerning an early-morning hot pursuit in Cumberland County which left a K-9 Officer fatally stabbed. According to Sheriff Casey Cox, around 4:45 Wednesday morning, E911 Dispatch received a call that a semi-truck had side-swiped a vehicle traveling on north Highway 68 near Grassy Cove. As Deputies intercepted the semi-truck at the intersection of 68 and Highway 127 South the driver swerved into the path of the patrol vehicle attempting to strike the Deputy. The Deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver would not stop. Crossville Police and Deputies pursued the semi-truck to a dirt road off of Genesis Road at Obed River. The suspect crashed the semi-truck into a tree and attempted to flee on foot. As Officers and Deputies pursued him on foot, Crossville Police K-9 Officer Cain also pursued. As Cain made contact with the suspect, the dog was stabbed multiple times. The suspect, 28-year-old Dustin Lee Dixon, was captured and taken into custody. K9 Officer Cain was immediately transported to the Veterinarian Clinic and later transferred to the University of Tennessee Veterinary Hospital in Knoxville where he passed away. Investigators and Detectives with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and Crossville Police Department are jointly investigating this case as well as being assisted by the Tennessee Highway Patrol. The truck had recently been stolen from a business in Crossville earlier in the night. Dixon is currently being held at the Cumberland County Justice Center where he will be facing multiple criminal charges.
