ADDITIONAL INFORMATION RELEASED REGARDING ARREST OF INTRUDER AT MARTIN ELEMENTARY

Late Thursday morning (January 11, 2024), Crossville police responded to Martin Elementary School for an intruder.

The arrest report released late Friday afternoon (January 12, 2024) states a counselor at the school notified the student resource officer there was an unknown man inside the building.

The SRO officer went to the office and saw 26-year-old Tyler Royce Wolfe of Crossville, wearing all black and carrying a backpack, walk out the office door and leave the building.

The officer learned Wolfe entered the school through an unlocked gym back door.

School officials told the SRO they had no idea who Wolfe was or why he was in the school.

While in the gym, Wolfe walked past numerous students and staff.

Two staff members saw Wolfe walk out of the gym into the main hallway and towards the cafeteria and front entrance.

Once he was outside, Wolfe ignored the instructions from the officer to stop and got into a vehicle. Fearing Wolfe was going for a weapon, the officer drew his firearm, aimed it at him, and ordered him to stop.

The officer attempted to break the driver window, but Wolfe backed up and sped off.

A short time later, police saw Wolfe traveling on Highway 70 East near the bowling alley. Officers stopped Wolfe and arrested him.

He was taken to the Cumberland County jail and charged with aggravated trespassing and felony evading arrest.

Officers seized a cell phone on Wolfe. Officers entered it into evidence.

According to the sheriff’s office, Wolfe made bond and was released a few hours after being booked at the jail.

In a different arrest report summary obtained by 3B Media News it states officers reviewed security camera video footages of the incident.

The report states Wolfe arrived at the school in a red Honda Fit and pulled directly in front of the main entrance to Martin Elementary.

Wolfe sat inside his vehicle for a moment, then got out of the vehicle and walked to the front doors. He attempted to open the door, which was locked. Wolfe pulled out his cell phone while standing in front of the doors and made no attempt to enter again or press the intercom button clearly marked. Wolfe also made no attempt to get the attention of office or cafeteria staff inside.

Wolfe then walked back towards his vehicle. He turned and went down a walkway leading to the car rider drop off and pick up line. He passed up a set of double doors leading into the school, making no attempt to enter the building. He continued to walk along the car rider line towards the rear of the school.

When Wolfe came to the pavilion area, he saw an open door leading into the gym. He walked toward the door, entered the gym, and immediately walked back out. Wolfe entered the pavilion area. Four volunteer adults were walking from the rear of the school towards the front. Wolfe made no attempt to talk to any of them. He proceeded to walk towards the rear of the school.

Wolfe turned around and went back to the open door into gym. He walked in and made no attempt to talk to any of the adults and students in the gym even though numerous students and staff were there having pictures done.

Wolfe walked along the wall of the gym. He headed toward the gym doors leading into the main hallway. Wolfe looked down at his phone during this time.

Two adults approached Wolfe and asked him who he was. Wolfe reportedly said he was looking for his child and wondered where the family resource bathroom was. Wolfe was escorted to the front office by the two adults.

When the student resource officer on site arrived at the office, Wolfe immediately fled the office and the building towards his vehicle. Wolfe drove away after the officer made an attempt to stop Wolfe.

A third report from the arresting officer obtained by 3B Media News states Wolfe was stopped in his vehicle at 1340 Highway 70 East near the bowling alley. A frisk of Wolfe revealed no weapons on him. In plain view inside the vehicle was the black backpack Wolfe had on him when he went into the school.

It should be noted that none of the summaries tell what was inside the backpack.

Officers noted seeing an Apple Car Play with the screen showing a GPS app being used to navigate back to his residence on Holly Court.

After Wolfe was taken to jail, other officers went to the residence of Wolfe on Holly Court. They encountered his mother, who told them Wolfe has moved back in with her three months ago. She told police he will be attending Arizona State University soon and it is being paid for by Uber. She added Wolfe drives for Uber in the Knoxville area. When officers asked her why Wolfe would be at Martin Elementary School, she told police she did not know a reason for him being there. She told police Wolfe was homeschooled and was very smart. No further information or a motive for Wolfe being at the school was discovered.

Later in the day, officers emailed the assistant district attorney a search warrant for Wolfe’s cell phone for review.

No further information was released.

3B Media News will provide further updates once more details are released.
