AFTER 10 YEAR WAIT, CROSSVILLE MAIN STREET REVITALIZATION PROJECT FINALLY BEGINS
A total makeover for Crossville starts in just days. Beginning May 28th, city contractors will start the downtown sidewalk revitalization project. The existing sidewalks on both sides of Main Street will be ripped up and new sidewalks poured. It’s a year-long project and will stretch from Highway 70/Lantana Road to Neecham Street. New street lights, traffic signals and pedestrian crosswalk signals are included along with all sidewalks being ADA-compliant.
The project will be completed in phases with the work beginning on the north sidewalks all the way to Neecham Street then back to the starting point of Lantana Road/Highway 70 down the south side of Main. The completion date should be May 2025. The City had a special meeting tonight and City Engineer Director Tim Begley went over the entire project plans with those in attendance. Once the sidewalks are replaced, TDOT will commence repaving a very dilapidated Main Street.
The sidewalk revitalization project has been 10 years in the making with one hold up after another along the way. Cost, including TDOT grant money and the City’s portion, is expected to come in at around 2 million dollars once everything is completed.
