AFTER FOUR-MONTH MANHUNT, POLICE ARREST HIXSON MURDER SUSPECT

Late last night, Chattanooga police announced the arrest of a suspect in the January 11, 2019, murder of 30-year-old Taja Whiteside on the 5800 block of Moody Sawyer Road in Hixson.

Police have confirmed 31-year-old Kameron Maurice Leslie is currently in custody in Florida, and has been charged with first-degree murder. Leslie is being held in the Duval County jail, awaiting extradition to Hamilton County.

Federal, state and local authorities worked together for nearly four months to apprehend Leslie, who was taken into custody yesterday on the 7000 block of 103rd Street in Jacksonville. Agencies involved include the U.S. Marshals Office, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and the Clay County (Florida) Sheriff’s Office, as well as the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
