AFTER SUDDEN MEMORY LAPSE, NORTON FINDS CONTRABAND AMID PRIVATES
Late Monday night, Cumberland County deputies brought an inmate into the shower area for a strip search on suspicion of hidden contraband. As 34-year-old Joshua Matthew Norton of Crossville was complying, an empty insulin vial fell from his pants. He was also found to have an orange syringe cap protruding from his buttocks; he denied having anything there. A deputy removed it with a gloved hand, then noticed something stuck between Norton’s private parts. Norton repeatedly insisted nothing was there. When the deputy called for assistance, Norton suddenly realized he was concealing a cylindrical vial between his penis and scrotum; he removed it, claiming he “forgot it was there.”
Norton was charged with possession of contraband in a penal institution and was placed under $10,000 bond.
