DRUNK EMPLOYEE CREATES DISTURBANCE IN FAIRFIELD GLADE RESTAURANT
Last Wednesday afternoon, Cumberland County deputies were not expecting to find a grown woman, drunk, sprawled on the floor of the restaurant where she worked, hurling obscenities. But that’s what they found when they arrived at Villa Pizza in Fairfield Glade. The arrest report states 52-year-old Angela Elizabeth Hughes of Fairfield Glade was “halfway laying across a booth and the floor… in the middle of the public restaurant.”
When a deputy attempted to get her attention, Hughes, who was said to smell strongly of alcohol and could barely open her eyes, uttered a physically impossible obscenity and proceeded to prattle on incoherently. The deputy observed Hughes had slurred speech, red glossy eyes and was unable to keep herself upright. Cumberland County EMS was called to ensure she was not having a medical episode. EMTs cleared Hughes of any possible medical condition.
Hughes claimed she had not taken any drugs, and would not respond to questions about alcohol.
The manager and other employees said Hughes had showed up for work about 11 a.m. and made what they described as periodic breaks to use the bathroom and go out to her vehicle.
Hughes had no keys on her and could not provide any information about her vehicle.
According to the arrest report, Hughes “was an annoyance to the public establishment and a danger to herself [and] had to be assisted out of the restaurant and into the patrol vehicle.”
Hughes was arrested for public intoxication. She’s due in court April 22. The arrest paperwork now lists her as unemployed.
