AMBER ALERT SUSPECT TAD CUMMINS NOW IN FEDERAL CUSTODY

A man charged with kidnapping 15-year-old Elizabeth Thomas in Tennessee and sparking a nationwide manhunt is now in federal custody. Tad Cummins will be transported today to Sacramento, California which is where he will be arraigned Monday. Cummins was initially supposed to appear in court this morning in Yreka, California. Cummins is charged in Siskiyou County, California with kidnapping and possession of stolen property. He and his former student, Thomas, were found in a cabin in the area yesterday. He is awaiting extradition to Tennessee, where he will be charged with sexual contact with a minor and aggravated kidnapping. The 50-year-old is also facing the federal charge of transportation of a minor across state lines for criminal sexual intercourse. The charge carries a minimum 10-year sentence.
