ARMED SUSPECT ARRESTED AFTER ALTERCATION AT GAS STATION IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

Cumberland County deputies and the Tennessee Highway Patrol responded Monday to the Exxon gas station on Plateau Road and I-40 for a reported armed man.

The arrest report released today states the clerk and another individual secured themselves in a cooler in the rear of the business.

A trooper arrived first and encountered the suspect, 48-year-old Terry Paul Monday of Crossville.

A witness told officers Monday pointed a handgun at him, screaming he was going to kill him.

Once he got close enough, Monday allegedly attempted to strike the victim with the firearm in the face but missed.

The victim had a cup full of slushy in his hand and threw it on Monday. The victim then ran towards the gas pumps and picked up a garbage can throwing it at Monday. The victim ran into the store and took cover with another individual inside.

Officers say a search of the vehicle Monday was driving revealed meth.

While Monday was processed in the jail, officers allegedly found two small bags containing a crystal-like substance believed to be meth.

Monday was arrested for felony aggravated assault, vandalism, possession of meth, and introducing contraband into a penal institution.
