ATTORNEY FOR MAN FOUND GUILTY OF ROANE COUNTY MURDER ASKING STATE COURT TO OVERTURN CONVICTION

The attorney for a man convicted of murder in Roane County is arguing his client should get a new trial. Bob Jolley appeared in front of the Tennessee Court of Appeals, making the case for Shawn Smoot, who was convicted of the 2011 murder of Brooke Nicole Morris. Smoot was found guilty of first-degree murder by a jury in August 2016. He was sentenced to life without parole. Jolley told the court there are numerous reasons the case should be reversed. The court will consider the motion.
