AUDIT FINDS TWRA HAS NOT BEEN UPDATING ENDANGERED SPECIES LIST

A federal audit has discovered that the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has been lax in their reporting of endangered species. As a matter of fact, the report was found to have not been updated in 16 years even though the TWRA is required to update the report every two years. Furthermore, the Comptroller’s Office found that the agency has been negligent in submitting additions and deletions from the list of threatened species. Officials suggest that this could lead to putting more such species at risk of becoming extinct. The lack of such reports also puts Tennessee at risk of losing federal grant money. The TWRA says they were not privy of the reporting requirement until 2013 and that a new endangered species list is being prepared at this time.
