BAR INCIDENT LEADS TO HARRIMAN POLICE CHIEF BEING CHARGED WITH ASSAULT
The Oak Ridge Police Department says Harriman Police Chief Kenny Humphrey recently assaulted an individual at Swifty’s Bar and Grill on South Illinois Avenue. The report states two men said Humphrey berated them for being gang members because they were wearing biker clothing. The establishment owner then escorted an intoxicated Humphrey out of the bar. In the parking lot, Humphrey supposedly grabbed one of the men by the neck. He was charged with misdemeanor assault.
According to Harriman City Manager Kevin Helms, Humphrey self-reported the incident and has kept Helms apprised of the situation. Helms assigned Humphrey to desk duty until further notice and ordered a psychological evaluation for Humphrey, because his conduct was called into question.
A preliminary hearing is set for October 4, 2018.
Humphrey has been with the Harriman Police Department for 12 years. He most recently served as assistant chief before taking over as acting chief in April following the resignation of Derek Pacifico.
