BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU SAYS TO “TAKE CARE” WHEN DONATING TO AID HURRICANE HARVEY VICTIMS

Everyone’s eyes are on Texas during the horrendous effect of Hurricane Harvey and the destruction it’s causing. When natural disasters like tropical storm Harvey hit, most people want to know how they can help. Before you donate, the Better Business Bureau says do so with caution by making sure your donations get to the people who need it most. While many business owners are taking advantage of the situation by charging outrageous prices for supplies such as gasoline and drinking water, Officials with the BBB say that there are bad people out there who scam and run fraudulent activity surrounding the event. They say to investigate the organization that you are donating to making certain they are accredited and qualified to do such work. They suggest giving donations or contributions to such organizations as the American Red Cross or Salvation Army. They also recommend visiting www.give.org. to verify the trustworthiness of soliciting relief organizations.
