BLOUNT COUNTY TEEN MAY BE TRIED AS AN ADULT FOR CHILD RAPE

A 14-year-old in Blount County, Tennessee, arrested in March for allegedly raping a 4-year-old at an in-home daycare, may be tried as an adult. Prosecutors filed a motion to transfer the case to adult court, with a hearing scheduled for July 15. The teen faces two counts of aggravated rape of a child and remains in juvenile detention.

The investigation began after the assault was reported on March 17, and authorities are exploring additional charges and other potential victims. The daycare voluntarily closed. In Tennessee’s juvenile system, offenders are adjudicated delinquents and receive counseling and therapy instead of criminal sentences, with release contingent on meeting judicial requirements.

If tried as an adult, the teen could face up to 60 years in prison and a $50,000 fine for aggravated rape.
