BLUE RIBBON EVENT FOR THE PREVENTION OF CHILD AB– USE HELD IN CROSSVILLE

Yesterday, many turned out for the Cumberland County Blue Ribbon Ceremony for the prevention of child abuse. April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Individuals can show their support of this month’s Blue Ribbon Campaign by wearing and distributing blue ribbons, organizing community activities, and showing support for organizations that help keep kids safe and families together. The theme for this years ceremony was “Imagine A World Without Child Abuse.” Crossville Mayor James Mayberry and Cumberland County Mayor Kenneth Carey, Jr. presented proclamation decrees recognizing the child abuse prevention efforts. The ceremony continued with contest award presentations. A privacy room was opened after the ceremony for anyone who desired consultation or had questions for officials. Many organizations set up booths where citizens could learn more about services that are offered regarding the prevention of child abuse and to help victims. Last year in Cumberland County alone, there were 1,590 children affected by abuse, neglect, or sexual abuse. (That averages to 4 children a day in Cumberland County)

If you suspect a child is being harmed, reporting your suspicions may protect the child and get help for the family. Tennessee law states that a report is required when a person knows or has reasonable cause to suspect that a child has been abused, neglected, or sexually abused. You can call 1-877-54AB– USE or 1-877-237-0004 or go to www.tn.gov/dcs/article/report-child-abuse to report child abuse.
