An extensive search following a bomb threat made against Wartburg Central High School this morning turned up nothing.

1057 News spoke this afternoon with Captain Michael Cox of the Wartburg Police Department, who said the threat, written on a bathroom stall, was discovered about 11:45. One student told 1057 News the note said in part, “the school goes boom at 1:45.”

Captain Cox said the school was evacuated within about ten minutes’ time. The students were sent to an evacuation point at First Baptist Church.

Fire and EMS responded and were on standby at the school. Several officers accompanied the students to the evacuation location.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office was called and they brought in a bomb dog to conduct a sweep of the school. Having searched every room, the dog “didn’t alert on anything,” Captain Cox said. After being given the all-clear, he added, “students were brought back to the school today and were dismissed from the school.”

All after-school activities are proceeding as usual, the captain noted.
