Within the span of less than 48 hours, Crossville Police arrested five people for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Friday afternoon, Crossville police arrested 70-year-old Eddie Maurice Brumbelow after a report of an intoxicated man driving into a resident’s garage on the 70 block of Knights Street. During the incident, Brumbelow – who had his mother in the car – claimed he’d had “a lot to drink.” He subsequently urinated on himself and refused to participate in field sobriety tests.

Then, at 3 a.m. Saturday, police stopped 31-year-old Emmett Kirk after observing him following a vehicle too closely on Genesis Road. Kirk’s license had been revoked for DUI. He was unable to successfully complete field sobriety tests and was taken into custody for DUI fourth offense, driving on a revoked license and two active Cumberland County violation-of-parole warrants.

Nearly 10 p.m. Saturday, police found 40-year-old Richard Jeremy Elliott standing over a woman lying in the road in the middle of Sparta Drive near the intersection of Miller Avenue. Witnesses claim the woman fell out of Elliott’s vehicle, stopped nearby. She had vomit on her and smelled strongly of alcohol. Elliott also smelled of alcohol and reportedly admitted to drinking at Romo’s earlier in the evening. Elliott was unable to successfully complete field sobriety tests and was charged with DUI.

Then, nearly 11:30 Saturday night, police encountered 58-year-old Robert Brooks Stanton on West Avenue during a routine traffic stop. Stanton admitted to drinking at The Bear’s Den Bar and Grill and then at Bullfrogs. He refused requests to exit the vehicle and had to be forcibly pulled out by officers. After he was handcuffed, Stanton declared he had defecated on himself and kept asking whether officers “could smell it.” No field sobriety tests were performed out of concern for Stanton’s and the officers’ safety. Stanton was charged with DUI and resisting arrest. A warrant for a blood draw was obtained.

Shortly before 3 Sunday morning, police paced a vehicle operated by 35-year-old Leider Castillo doing 55 in a 30 mph zone and twice failing to maintain its lane of travel. The vehicle did not initially stop and only came to rest when its path was blocked by a large commercial vehicle stopped in the roadway. Castillo was said to have watery, bloodshot eyes and smelled strongly of alcohol, although he said he’d only consumed two beers. Castillo was arrested for DUI and driving without a license and a warrant was obtained for two vials of blood.
