CAR SET ON FIRE OUTSIDE ROCKWOOD LITTLE CAESAR’S
Rockwood Fire Department officials were sent to the area between Little Caeser’s Pizza and the Cash Express building Sunday morning around 2 am to where a car was on fire. The Rockwood PD’s report stated that Rockwood Fire and Police were dispatched to the area yesterday night where Little Caesar’s is located, where a vehicle appeared to be on fire.
Officer Jacob Cunningham arrived on the scene and could see a blue 2013 Chevrolet Equinox with smoke coming from the inside of it.
The Fire Department was already on the scene and was putting the fire out. After the fire was out and the smoke had cleared, Captain Robinson with the Fire Department advised Cunningham that there was nobody in the vehicle, the glove box was emptied and looked like it had been gone through, and the fire appeared to have started inside the vehicle by the rear hatch.
The officer then observed that the glove box appeared to have been gone through and could see burn marks inside the vehicle towards the rear by the hatch. There were no burn marks on the outside of the vehicle. The back hatch did not have a window and there was only a piece of plastic covering the window. This plastic was on the ground when he arrived on the scene.
What seemed to have been burned was the inside roof by the rear light fixture inside the car and the various items stuffed in the back. Officer Cunningham then spoke with Detective D. Arnold to inform him of this case and confirmed that the battery was still in the vehicle. The officer stated he taped off the vehicle to be investigated further later.
The police officer stated he was familiar with this vehicle, and that it had been repossessed by Cash Express. Video cameras of nearby stores didn’t reveal any footage that showed anyone around the car at the time of the fire. The report did indicate that the former owner, a female, was upset that the car had been repossessed and she was living in the vehicle.
The investigation is ongoing.
