The man who kidnapped his niece earlier this year triggering an Amber Alert has been charged with other crimes including rape and sexual battery. Gary Simpson received the additional charges when he appeared in a preliminary hearing. Simpson took the young girl, Carlie Trent, from her school in Rogersville under false pretenses. The hunt for the child went on for days until she and Simpson were found by two Hawkins County men. Simpson was initially charged with especially aggravated kidnapping and custodial kidnapping. His bond was set at $1 million, and is expected to be in court on Dec. 9.
