CARROLL REPORTEDLY ASSAULTS LAWMAN NEXT TO BIG LICK CEMETERY

A deputy in Cumberland County sustained injuries this week following a confrontation with a wanted subject starting in Big Lick Cemetery. The officer was called to a report of a suspicious male laying down there. The report states 43-year-old Ted Wayne Carroll of Hohenwald, Tennessee (southwest of Nashville) gave a false name and stated the reason he was in the cemetery was to get better cell phone service.

While speaking with Carroll, the officer observed a machete on the ground next to the suspect. Carroll was asked to stand up and a check did not reveal any further weapons. The deputy secured the machete in his patrol car.

That is when Carroll ran towards a driveway on the 10,000 block of Vandever Road.

The foot chase went into a wooded area where the officer deployed his taser trying to stop Carroll which was not successful. Carroll allegedly pushed the deputy down to the ground during the scuffle. Carroll got away and the officer sustained minor injuries to his shoulder and wrist.

A check revealed Carroll was wanted in Lewis and Humphrey counties on multiple felony warrants. He was later located at a nearby home and arrested for assault on a first responder, resisting arrest, criminal impersonation and evading arrest.
