A cause for the fire that broke out last week at Rockwood Walmart’s Garden Center has finally been uncovered. According to officials with the Rockwood Fire and Police departments, a heater over a doorway caused a pallet of material to catch fire, sparking the blaze.

At one point, the fire could be seen through the garden center’s roof. The building was evacuated, and fire department Crews quickly arrived and began an attack, asking for more assistance. That call would be answered by the Harriman Fire Department, responding with several of their units to assist Rockwood Fire in keeping the fire from spreading into other areas of the Walmart.

Rockwood Fire Chief Matt Crabtree appreciated the quick response by Harriman, his department, and the police, who helped with traffic control at the scene.

The Rockwood Walmart was closed much of Friday evening into early Saturday but did reopen on Saturday, though with the scorched area sealed off from customers. No injuries were reported from The Rockwood Walmart fire.
