CCHS STUDENT RECOGNIZED FOR SAVING SMALL CHILD FROM CHOKING ON SCHOOL BUS
A Cumberland County 9th grader was honored and praised Thursday night for his rescue of a small child on a school bus. Cumberland County High School student Darren Hamel received a certificate of recognition from Director of Schools Janet Graham and the Board of Education. He has also been recognized by CCHS Principal Jon Hall and Crossville City Mayor James Mayberry for his rescue of a kindergarten student who he had witnessed choking on a sucker while on the bus. Darren acted immediately and smacked the child on the back with the sucker coming out. Daren is the son of John and Jessica Hamel. He has a sister, Ashley and a brother, Shane.
