CHAIN OF EVENTS STARTED BY LIGHTNING STRIKE LEADS TO FAIRFIELD HOUSE FIRE

According to the Fairfield Glade Fire Department, a series of unfortunate events led to a structure fire in Fairfield Glade yesterday afternoon, as a house on Stonecastle Place suffered a fire under the floor.
The current theory from a Volunteer Energy Cooperative electrician is that a lightning strike over the weekend hit a propane line going to the house, and causing a leak.
Workers with VEC were on the scene attempting to work with the house’s wiring when an attempt to turn the power back on caused a short, which then set the gas off.
Thankfully, the fire didn’t rise above the floor, and VEC electricians could put out most of the fire before Fairfield Glade firefighters arrived on the scene. The firefighters were on the scene for roughly an hour, and the fire was successfully put out with just a fire extinguisher.
No one was hurt, although portions of the house’s under area were scorched, and much of the wiring was damaged.
