CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATES REQUEST SEARCH FOR NEW CITY MANAGER BEGIN AFTER NOV. ELECTION

Earlier this week, 1057 News reported on the fact that Thursday night’s Crossville City Council meeting agenda will have items addressing the position of city manager and the fact that the search to fill that seat has become more immediate than before. The council had voted earlier this year to wait to begin the search until after the November 8th Municipal Election. Last month, the council voted to rescind that previous motion and begin taking resumes immediately with a cutoff date of Sept. 30th. Now, in an unparalleled move, seven of the eight people who have qualified to run for the two council seats up for election in November, have signed a petition requesting that the council again wait until after the election to begin the search. The petition was created by candidate Jerry T. Brownstead, and requests that the council refrains from appointing the city manager until the newly-elected officials take office. It will be presented to the council at Thursday night’s meeting. Signing the request was Charles Cooper, Rob Harrison, Terri Manning, Jeanette Parsons, Scott Shanks, David Warner and Brownstead. The only one not signing the petition is former city mayor JH Graham III. Brownstead stated that Graham believed that it would be unfair for the current council to not be able to vote on the city manager. Thursday’s meeting begins at 6 PM at City Hall and is open to the public.
