CITY OF CROSSVILLE MOVING CLOSER WITH YMCA FOR NEW INDOOR RECREATIONAL CENTER

In their work session held last night, the Crossville City Council is moving closer to working with the Putnam County YMCA to make a proposed indoor recreational center a reality.

The 59,478 square foot building would be on South Main Street across from city hall.

The estimated cost is $39,568,664, with a $6 million contingency included in the total.

The city wishes to partner with the Putnam County YMCA on the project.

Officials say the Putnam County YMCA wants to make it as cost-effective as possible.

The proposed center will include an indoor pool, sauna, exercise area, basketball court, walking track, gym, and childcare.

The Putnam County YMCA will submit a letter of intent to assist the city in raising $10 million to pay for the building. The city attorney will review the letter before being considered and possibly approved by the city council.

The other $23 to 30 million would come from financing options the city would have.

The council discussed the formation of a Sports Authority and a Tourism Development Authority that could be used to issue bonds for the construction of the indoor recreational center. Under an authority board, property taxes would be off-limits for payback of the bonds.
