CLARKRANGE DEFEATED FOR STATE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

The Clarkrange Lady Buffaloes took on defending state champion South Greene for the TSSAA Class A state championship tonight at the MTSU Murphy Center in Murfreesboro. In the contest, South Greene won the state title by defeating the Lady Buffaloes 66 to 57.

The game started with South Greene coming off the bench quick and taking a 21 to 12 lead by the end of the first quarter.

But the Lady Buffaloes would adjust and cut the deficit down to one. The Lady Buffaloes Hannah Garrett hit a 3 point shot to give Clarkrange the lead for only the second time in the game. South Greene would answer with a 3 point shot of their own and went into halftime with a 37 to 36 lead over Clarkrange.

In the 3rd quarter, South Greene picked up the pace going on a 12-1 run to extend their lead to 54 to 43 at the end of the quarter.

In the fourth and final quarter for the state title, Clarkrange fought back but the deficit was too much as South Greene won the game.

For Clarkrange, Kara Meadows was the lead scorer with 28 points. Meadows shot 12 of 17 and had six rebounds in her 32 minutes of playing time. Hannah Garrett finished with 11 points, Breanna Bush with 9, Gracie Bush with 5 and Charity Crabtree with 3.

As a team, the Lady Buffaloes hit 22 of 35 shots and had 19 rebounds. That gave Clarkrange a shooting percentage of 63 percent, compared to South Greene 43 percent. For three point shooting, both teams shot 43 percent. But it was the free throws that gave South Greene the edge as they hit 82 percent to the Lady Buffaloes 78 percent. Points off of turnovers went to South Greene with 10 to Clarkranges 4 points. South Greene had eight steals in the game compared to the Lady Buffaloes two. South Greene would have the lead for nearly the entire game except for 28 seconds. The game was only tied one time in the contest.

The Lady Buffaloes finish the season 27-11.
