COMMISSIONERS CALLING FOR FIELD TESTS OF SWAN POND SPORTS COMPLEX

Coming off a federal jury decision this week in Knoxville stating Jacobs Engineering is at fault for unsafe clean-up conditions for workers at the ash spill in Roane County, officials in the county are acting on a related topic. At least two Roane County commissioners are calling for the fields at the Swan Pond Sports Complex to be tested for health hazards. The ash spill took place in December 2008 that covered up to 300 acres of land. After the clean-up was completed, hundreds of workers fell sick or died apparently as a result of the work they performed. The sports complex was proposed years later on part of the site affected by the spill and the first phase of construction was completed in late 2016.
