CONVICTED FELON ALLEGEDLY SWALLOWS DRUG EVIDENCE DURING ARREST IN CROSSVILLE
Crossville Police had their hands full after arresting a convicted felon who tampered with drug evidence. 24-year-old Nathan Kenneth Sherrill of Pikeville was stopped for a light law violation. Sherrill had to be reprimanded by officers several times during the stop for attempting to reach into his pockets. He did notify police that he was carrying a knife which was confiscated, along with a small bag of meth. A ..22 Savage rifle, ammunition, and a digital scale with residue. The suspect then confessed to being a convicted felon. Officers handcuffed Sherrill and placed him in the rear of a cruiser. The bag of meth was also placed in the cruiser. According to reports, the bag of meth disappeared from the cruiser after Sherrill begged to be re-handcuffed. A search for the meth began starting with Sherrill’s person. Nothing was found. The suspect was transported to the hospital where an X-Ray was taken to see if Sherrill had ingested the bag. The X-Ray came up negative, but hospital officials said that it would be difficult to see anyway. But they did tell officers that if Sherrill had eaten the .5 grams of meth, it was deadly. As Sherrill was admitted to the intake area, a struggle began as the suspect continually appeared to be hiding something in his hand. Sherrill reportedly placed his hands to his mouth and was becoming sweaty and shaky. He eventually revealed that he had swallowed the meth. He told officers that he was able to steal the drug when he poked his head through the cruiser’s divider screen earlier to asked to be handcuffed again. He was also charged with felony drug and weapons possession.
