COULD A NEW SHOPPING PLAZA AND PUBLIX BE IN THE FUTURE FOR CROSSVILLE?

The Crossville City Council met in a special called session this afternoon with Fred Hand IV of Hand Properties out of Georgia about a possible retail development project. Hand told the council that his company, that has been in business for 30 years, is interested in developing the land next to Dollar Tree and across from the Rocky Top 10. The project would call for a shopping center with one major retailer, one major grocery store and a few smaller stores. Hand said he is putting together the package to submit to Publix for their approval in this project.

It also will involve the expansion of Interstate Drive and TDOT to install a traffic light in the area of the proposed project in the future. Hand added that if the shopping center is built, it very well could attract a couple of new restaurants. The council will continue talks with Hand Properties very soon on the project to see how to proceed.

This project is separate from a major retail shopping center proposed off of North Main Street about a mile south of I-40 in Crossville.

(Star indicates the location of the proposed shopping center. Interstate Drive would be expanded in the future with turn lanes at the intersection a traffic light would be installed)
