“CREEPY CLOWN THREAT” FORCES SOFT LOCKDOWN OF CUMBERLAND COUNTY SCHOOLS WEDNESDAY

The “Creepy Clown Threat” problem hit close to home Wednesday in Cumberland County. Early Wednesday morning, school officials, Crossville Police and the Sheriff’s Dept. were all alerted to a potential threatening message which had been sent over Instagram from someone calling himself “Scrappy the Clown” toward Cumberland County High School. Similar threats have been made to other school districts in the state. Schools across the county were then put on “soft lock-down” and security was increased at CCHS and neighboring Martin Elementary School. Additional security measures were established at schools throughout the county as authorities took the situation in hand. Director of Schools Janet Graham told 1057 News shortly before Noon, that no further developments had been received in the incident and that she was lifting the soft lockdown on all schools. However the safety measure continued for the rest of the day at CCHS and Martin. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
