CROSSVILLE CITY COUNCIL APPROVES SHOOTING SPORTS PARK CONTRACT

At a special-called meeting of the Crossville City Council Tuesday, the council unanimously approved an updated contract with the group Crossville Shooting Park Inc. selling them a piece of property for the construction of a shooting sports park. An original contract struck earlier this year was rescinded by the council last month due to public objection over the park. City Attorney William Ridley reviewed the new contract which pretty much mirrored the original. The main addition calls for a restricted tract of land closer to the main road, Albert Frye Rd, that can only be used for air rifles and archery. The contract closing date is set for April 10th, 2017. Mayor Pro Tem JH Graham voiced concerns over Albert Frye Rd, stating that he wanted it in the contract that the road would have to be brought up to the standards of the Crossville Regional Planning Commission. It was brought up that the road is owned by the county and that it was on schedule to be tarred and chipped. City Manager Greg Wood also brought up that Community Development Block Grant funds may be available to also help with the road. Council Member Danny Wyatt said he also wanted the contract to reflect that there be no night shooting at the park other than needed by law enforcement personnel. The motion was made to approve the contract by City Mayor James Mayberry and then seconded by Scot Shanks. Graham passed on the first round of voting but after four approvals, he stated for the record that he was opposed to approving the contract until the road was brought up to standards, but he cast a vote to approve making the vote unanimous.
