CROSSVILLE CITY COUNCIL CALLS ANOTHER SPECIAL-CALLED MEETING FOR TUESDAY

The tennis game between the Crossville City Council and a non-profit group created to run the operation of a proposed shooting sports park continues to be played out. Another special-called meeting has been called by City Mayor James Mayberry for Tuesday afternoon at 4:45 with the only agenda item being “discussion and action on contract with Crossville Shooting Sports Park Inc.” Such a contract had already been agreed upon by the two entities in February but in March, several residents and property owners in the area of Albert Frye Rd, the designated land that the city contracted to sell to the non-profit for the placement of the park, raised concerns that the park would ruin their “quality of life.” At that time, City Council Member Danny Wyatt brought up the fact that a specific point in the contract was that the contract would pretty much be voided in the wake of a “public outcry”. In March, the council rescinded the contract which led to those in favor of the shooting park to voice strong opposition. Now a new contract has been drafted after a shooting sound-level demonstration was held this past Saturday on the property. The only new addition to the contract appears to be a stipulation that would prohibit anything but archery or air guns to be used alongside the actual roadway itself. The special-called meeting will take place just before the Council’s monthly work session at City Hall.
