CROSSVILLE CITY COUNCIL DEFERS TALK ON SHOOTING SPORTS PARK

The Crossville City Council brought up the subject of the proposed Shooting Sports Park at a work session this week. The park has been proposed by Cumberland County Mayor Kenneth Carey to be constructed on property owned by the city on Albert Frye Rd. Council Member Pamela Harris voiced her concerns of the city’s liability with the property. Carey told the council last month that the TWRA has targeted a $2.2 million grant for such a park, and that paperwork is being filed for the park to be operated by a non-profit group with a board of directors. During Tuesday’s work session, the issue was brought up that the establishment of a non-profit organization typically takes a long time, and that time is ticking on grant fund possibilities for the park. City Attorney William Ridley had been tasked to draft a preliminary contract on the agreement but he was not present at the session. City Mayor James Mayberry said that there were still too many questions and so the matter was deferred until a later date.
