CROSSVILLE CITY COUNCIL HEARS SPECIAL CENSUS TALLIES

The City of Crossville has grown a bit since the 2016 census. At Tuesday night’s city council meeting, Census Director Arnold Harbolt delivered the results of a special census which was conducted at the council’s request. The latest count revealed a total of 11,564 residents. That’s an increase of 544 residents since the last census was taken in 2016. Harbolt stated that under current calculations for per-capita tax allocations the city would receive an additional $61,395.84 a year or a little more than $240,000 over the next four years. Currently, state-shared taxes amount to about 7-percent of the city’s budget. The latest census tallied 5,509 total addresses. 5,319 of those addresses were occupied. $50,000 was originally budgeted for the special census, but the operation came in under budget at $36,760.
