CROSSVILLE CITY COUNCIL MEMBER IMPLICATED IN THEFT OF SIGNS

A police report has been filed in Crossville that names a city council member and his father as suspects in a theft. According to the report, Officers were called to 279 Mockingbird Dr. for two male subjects that had stolen signs from the front yard. The handmade signs, with derogatory remarks made toward City Council Member Jesse Kerley, had been posted at the location for several weeks by the resident J.R. Blankenship. The report states that a neighbor had observe two men drive up in a white 2008 Chevy pickup. One of the men allegedly used a ladder to remove a sign from the roof, while the other suspect removed two signs from a tree in the front yard. The men then left the scene, but not before a witness copied the truck’s license number. A check of the truck’s registration matched it to a truck owned by Jerry Kerley, the father of Jesse Kerley, and an employee with the City of Crossville. Both Jerry and Jesse Kerley are named as suspects on the police report. According to sources, the case has been turned over to the District Attorney General’s Office for investigation. A similar report was filed by Blankenship several months ago, when a surveillance camera took photos of an unidentified person striking signs on the property with a sledgehammer. A feud has been brewing between Jesse Kerley and Blankenship since Blankenship was fined for soliciting leaflets in the city concerning alleged crooked politics. He has appealed the decision.
