CROSSVILLE CITY COUNCIL PONDERING PROPOSAL FOR PURCHASE OF 2 NEW FIRE TRUCKS

Crossville may be getting not one, but two new fire trucks in the future. During a Tuesday night work session, the council heard from City Fire Chief Mike Turner on the possibility of the city purchasing two such trucks, a ladder and a pumper, at a discount through HGACBuy Co-Op Consortium. Fire department officials had been looking at acquiring a Snozzle-type truck with an extended reach and high-impact water delivery system. Chief Turner said that the needs of the department were scrutinized and that it was discovered that the two trucks, if purchased, would replace half of the city’s fleet of fire trucks. According to Turner, if the trucks are purchased before Oct. 31st, the city would save $185,000, initially buying both trucks for $1.7 million. The purchase price goes to $1.9 million after the deadline date. Other savings and discounts are possible. The council will address the proposal at their monthly meeting on Oct. 10th.
