CROSSVILLE CITY COUNCIL REVIEWS TDOT TRAFFIC FINDINGS

The Crossville City Council had a joint meeting with members of the planning commission Tuesday night to review a recent citywide traffic study performed by the Tennessee Dept. of Transportation. The report was paid for by a $250,000 Community Transportation Grant provided by TDOT that was a 90-10 match for the city. The grant was one of eight grants given to rural communities in 2014. The goals of the research looked at the city’s signalization system and look at improving the pedestrian environment, particularly from the downtown area to Centennial Park. Five main corridors were identified during the traffic signal analysis which looked at the present day signalization and projected a sketch of the same intersections in 2040. The worst intersection, that received an “F” rating, was the intersection of Highway 127 North at Interstate/Northside Drive. It remained the worst in the 2040 projection. Suggested improvements for “level of service” included signage, more signal coordination and law enforcement. The review also included a suggestion to add 12 new pedestrian light signals to the downtown area and the creation of some kind of pathway along roadways for pedestrian/bicycle traffic to Centennial Park.
