CROSSVILLE CITY COUNCIL TO AGAIN DISCUSS DOWNTOWN SIDEWALKS AT MONTHLY MEETING

The Crossville City Council will hold their May monthly meeting Tuesday(5-9) night. One of the agenda items will be a continuation of a discussion on the downtown sidewalk project which was a major topic at the council’s work session last week. Much of the discussion has been about whether the sidewalk work should be done by city employees or bid out and the cost of each proposal. Member Scot Shanks stated that it has already been established that if the work is done in-house it would most likely take longer than if performed by an outside contractor. Shanks says he will propose that the city bid-out the work. If that motion fails, he will propose that the city concentrate on doing two blocks at a time and looking at previous work for time and money concerns. There is also the issue on whether or not work on street lighting and conduit be performed at the same time as sidewalk work or wait until the Tennessee Dept. of Transportation addresses the paving of the city’s Main St. City Manager Greg Wood and City Engineer Tim Begley were tasked to meet with TDOT on the matter. They should have a report on that inquiry at the meeting. The city will meet at 6 PM after a series of meetings which include the Beer Board and a public hearing on the city’s Capital Improvement Plan.
