CROSSVILLE CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION HIGHLIGHTS; FIRE STATION 2 UPDATES
The Crossville City Council held a work session to discuss various agenda items ahead of the formal voting meeting scheduled for next week on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
A significant portion of the discussion focused on updates for Fire Station #2, which is nearing completion. The contractor reported progress on ceiling grids, flooring (set to begin in mid-January), and inspections, with substantial completion targeted for February 13, 2026, allowing the building to be occupied for its intended use despite potential minor remaining items.
Concerns were raised about past water intrusion issues, moisture testing results (generally within acceptable parameters after remediation), and the one-year warranty period starting upon substantial completion signing.
Updates on Fire Station #1 renovations indicated delays due to earlier uncertainty about vehicle housing needs, but recent meetings have advanced plans to secure an architect, with hopes of starting the project by the end of the fiscal year.
Discussions also covered a proposed meeting with state officials, the Corps of Engineers, and Wauford personnel to address water resources issues in Cumberland County.
Other items included the city manager’s contract renewal (presented without proposed changes for council review), a request from the Crossville Cruisers for temporary street closures (with a proposed time adjustment to 10 a.m.–2 p.m. for comfort in warmer months, highlighting the group’s community contributions and sponsorships), funding for the Industrial Development Board, a budget amendment ordinance incorporating several overages and new expenses, a downtown improvement grant contract for facade projects, retroactive approval of a BRAG environmental contract, concessions services RFPs for soccer complexes and parks, awarding professional airport engineering services, and various infrastructure awards and change orders (including water filtration systems, tank improvements, booster stations, force mains, and police department HVAC adjustments).
Additional discussions addressed approval of updated financial policies (including separate cash management and cybersecurity policies), revisions to the beer ordinance for clarity, and a new policy for 5K/10K/fun run events on city property (with FAA approval required for airport use). Non-informational items from the agenda are slated for votes at the upcoming council meeting.
