Crossville AEMT and Firefighter Jade Callister was officially honored today by state leaders for her instrumental role in turning a personal tragedy into statewide legislative reform.

Senator Paul Bailey, Lieutenant Governor Randy McNally, and Representative Paul Sherrell visited Callister to present her with a ceremonial copy of Senate Bill 1900. The newly enacted legislation significantly strengthens legal protections for first responders who are assaulted while performing their duties.

Callister’s journey to advocacy began in 2025, when she was assaulted while responding to an emergency call. Refusing to let the incident pass quietly, she partnered with her fire chief, local department members, regional agencies, and state lawmakers to champion stronger safety measures. Her dedicated efforts culminated in the passage of SB 1900, ensuring heightened security for emergency personnel across Tennessee.

Local officials expressed profound gratitude for Callister’s resilience and leadership, noting that her courage has permanently improved safety standards for the entire first responder community.
