CROSSVILLE MAN ARRESTED FOR DUI AFTER REFUSING TESTS, AND GUN RECOVERED DURING TRAFFIC STOP
On May 26, 2026, Officer Dustin Lester of the Crossville Police Department observed a vehicle pull up and stop near his location on 127 N before turning south onto 127 and entering I-40 East.
Due to the vehicle’s extremely dirty license plate, the officer followed it until it exited at Buc-ee’s, where a traffic stop was initiated. Upon approaching the vehicle, the driver, Mr. Lane Nutter, had opened his door.
The officer immediately smelled alcohol on Nutter, who was rummaging through a bag large enough to contain a firearm. For safety, the officer removed him from the vehicle. As they walked to the rear, Nutter advised he had a gun in his pocket, which was secured, and he was detained for a possible DUI.
Nutter continued to exhibit signs of intoxication, including a strong odor of alcohol, stumbling, unsteadiness on his feet, and bloodshot, watery eyes.
He refused both a preliminary breath test (PBT) and standardized field sobriety tests (SFSTs). He was placed under arrest and transported to the Justice Center for booking.
A search warrant for a blood draw was obtained and executed at CMC Lab around 2:33 a.m. Nutter was then returned to the jail to complete the booking process.
