CROSSVILLE MAN CHARGED WITH CARRYING HANDGUN WHILE INTOXICATED

Crossville Police have charged a man having a loaded weapon while being intoxicated. According to reports, officers were called to the Big South Fork Visitor’s Center for a possible drunk driver in a Chevy Tracker parked at the facility. Upon their arrival, police were told the driver had left heading toward Genesis Road. The vehicle was found parked at the Stonehaus Winery with the driver, identified as 58-year-old Ricky A. Schoemaker, slumped over the wheel smelling of alcohol. Schoemaker woke up after officers retrieved his keys and allegedly stated that he had a handgun in his pocket. No handgun was found on Schoemaker’s person, however a .22 magnum revolver was found next to the seatbelt clasp. The gun was fully loaded and without a trigger guard. One empty bottle and one half-full bottle of vodka was found behind the passenger seat. Schoemaker was placed under arrest and transported to the Cumberland County Jail.
