CROSSVILLE MAN DEFRAUDED IN APPLE GIFT CARD CASH APP SCAM ON FACEBOOK MARKETPLACE

On June 9, 2026, Master Patrol Officer Justin Farmer responded to a report regarding a fraudulent online transaction. A seller attempting to list two movies on Facebook Marketplace for $10.00 was contacted by a prospective buyer named Francis McWilliams. The buyer claimed the payment could not be processed via Cash App because the seller’s profile was incorrectly flagged as a business account.

Shortly after, an individual posing as a Cash App representative contacted the seller, claiming that a $1,000.00 deposit would be made to resolve the issue, and instructing the seller to return the excess $990.00 by purchasing Apple gift cards. Before a family member intervened and stopped the transaction, the seller purchased $300.00 in Apple gift cards, photographed them, and sent the images through the application. The seller never received the promised $1,000.00 deposit.

Although the seller agreed to upload screenshots of the correspondence and evidence via a provided Axon link, the files had not yet been submitted at the time the incident report was completed and approved on June 10, 2026.
