A traffic accident in Crossville this morning resulted in the death of Crossville resident. Police say 85-year-old Vertie McNeeley was attempting to walk across Main Street in the area of the Cumberland County Courthouse. Witnesses report that traffic was stopped on Main Street at the 4th Street red light. As McNeeley stepped into traffic around the front passenger corner of a semi-truck, the truck began to move under the green light striking McNeeley, knocked to the ground and subsequently run over. First responders immediately began life-saving efforts and McNeeley was transported by EMS to Cumberland Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. The investigation continues into the incident.
