CROSSVILLE MAN FALLS VICTIM TO E-MAIL SCAM
A Crossville man fell victim to an e-mail scam yesterday. The man in his late 60’s told police he received an e-mail from who he thought was a friend of his requesting gift card numbers to go to veterans in hospice care. The victim went and bought five $100 gift cards, scratched off the covering and emailed the numbers as he was requested to. Soon after, the victim was contacted by his real friend who informed him he did not send such an e-mail. A check of the gift cards after he sent the numbers revealed the cards were already cleared. Authorities remind the public these scams happen often and do not send any personal information unless you are absolutely sure who you are dealing with.
