CROSSVILLE MAN INDICTED ON MURDER CHARGES IN KENTUCKY
Two men were arrested in December after a second grader was killed in a crash, and four others were injured in Adair County. Now, one of those men was indicted by an Adair County grand jury on murder charges stemming from the incident.
Joel Hammack, of Crossville, has been indicted on a murder charge as authorities say he was under the influence when he rear-ended the vehicle containing a 7-year-old girl named Rose Morgan, who later died from her injuries that day.
Hammack also faces many other charges, including possession of marijuana, fourth-degree assault, first-degree assault, operating a motor vehicle under the influence, and being a persistent felony offender. This marks his third DUI conviction in 10 years.
Previously, Hammack was held on a $1 million bond, but now, after his indictment, he will remain in jail until his next court appearance as no bail was said after his indictment was returned.
The other man involved in the incident, Walter Nichols, also faces charges and connection to the incident but was a passenger. He is being charged with allegedly assaulting first responders at the scene of the crash.
