CROSSVILLE MAN REPORTS AMAZON PRIME ACTIVATION SCAM
On December 5, 2025, Crossville Police Officer Britanny Price responded to a fraud report at Creekwood Dr and spoke with the complainant. The complainant reported that the previous day, while attempting to subscribe to Amazon Prime on their television, they received a code to enter on the Amazon website.
While searching for the site on their phone, they accidentally accessed a fraudulent website, Playticalive.com, which prompted for the TV code and debit card details. Immediately after entering the information, unauthorized transactions totaling $495 were charged to their account. The complainant quickly contacted their bank to close the account and provided a list of the fraudulent transactions.
This is a common type of scam targeting Amazon Prime activation on smart TVs. Scammers create fake websites that mimic the official Amazon activation page (typically amazon.com/code), often ranking high in search results due to paid ads or SEO manipulation.
Victims enter the legitimate TV code and payment details, allowing fraudsters to make immediate charges. Similar fraudulent sites have been reported in the past, and entering card information on any site other than the official amazon.com is a major red flag.
Always navigate directly to amazon.com/code or use the Amazon app to avoid these traps, and monitor accounts closely after any potential exposure.
