CROSSVILLE MAN REPORTS “GOOD CITIZEN GRANT” PHONE SCAM

A Crossville man has been scammed out of $300. The resident of Baker Lane told officers that he received a phone call stating that he had won the “Good Citizen Grant” for $9200 and that he would have to pay $200 in iTune cards to get the code to have the money released. The victim obtained the cards and talked to the “manager” on the phone, who told him that he needed to pay $600 to the state due to bad credit. The victim said that he only had another $100 and so the manager said that he would put the rest of the money to be paid later. The victim was told that he needed another $500. When he said that he didn’t have it he was told the account would be put on hold. It was then that the victim researched the call on the internet and discovered it was a scam. The investigation is ongoing.
