CROSSVILLE POLICE ARRESTS CONVICTED SEX OFFENDER

Crossville police responded to Red Roof Inn yesterday for a possible stolen vehicle. The owner of the automobile, 44-year-old Dwayne Levon Smith, told officers his girlfriend took the car but he did not want to press charges. A check revealed Smith is a convicted sex offender and he did not have a vehicle listed under his registry. Smith allegedly not only did not update officers of the vehicle but did not inform them of where he was staying. The arrest report states Smith told police he knew he should have updated officers of the vehicle he was driving as well as where he was staying. Smith was arrested for two counts of violation of the sex offender registry and taken to the Cumberland County jail. Smith was ordered onto the registry after his conviction for aggravated statutory rape.
