CUMBERLAND COUNTY DEPUTIES CONFISCATE METH, PILLS DURING TRAFFIC STOP

A traffic stop by Cumberland County Deputies yielded pills and meth. Officers observed a Chevy Silverado crossing over the fog line several times on westbound I-40. The vehicle and driver, identified as 28-year-old Christopher Eric Howard, was pulled over on the 317 exit ramp. Howard reportedly had slurred speech, glazed eyes and could show no driver’s license. A K-9 Officer hit on the possibility of drugs in the vehicle. Police found a crystal-like substance that had been crushed in the seat next to a passenger, 22-year-old Haley Michelle Herron. Several other assorted pills were also found along with pages of an alleged drug ledger. A portable safe was discovered in the floor of the rear of the vehicle. After checking with the District Attorney’s Office, officers were allowed to break into the safe. There they found a baggie containing 11.8 grams of methamphetamine. All of the drugs, vehicle and two cell phones were seized. Evidence will be presented to the Grand Jury at a later date.
