CROSSVILLE POLICE RELEASE REPORT ON WAFFLE HO– USE INCIDENT

Crossville Police have finally released the report on an incident which took place at Waffle House early last Friday morning. 1057 News reported that a male subject armed with a handgun threatened the staff and patrons of the business. Police were notified that 18-year-old David A. Smith was armed with a .22 handgun and was standing in the glass foyer of the restaurant. Witnesses said that Smith’s brother Randy, was inside the building on a cell phone calling police while David Smith had been locked out. During this time, witnesses stated that Waffle House staff had herded everyone into a bathroom and locked the door. Police arrived and reportedly found the subject passively confrontational. When an officer began a personal search of the victim, Smith bolted in an attempt to flee. He was tackled, taken to the ground and handcuffed. A .22 handgun was found on the driver’s seat of Randy Smith’s Car. He had told officers that at one point, his brother told Randy to take the gun and kill himself. That’s what prompted Randy to go inside the Waffle House and call police. David Smith allegedly told police that he did make threatening comments to his brother. He was charged with aggravated assault and a weapon law violation.
